Mood For Murder (The Lonesome Badger)

Mood For Murder, a 1956 pulp novel by Frank Gruber, is the first time we've seen song-poem music cited in a work of fiction. The mention occurs early in the book, on page 8, and is only a passing reference, designed to help set the situation and down-at-the-heels mood. Mood For Murder, originally published in 1954 under the title The Lonesome Badger, stars Otis Beagle, "a quite criminal investigator." it is brought to our attention by Paul DiFilippo, via Carnage Press honcho Byron Coley.
